Personally I think the rules of the op-ed genre are very laxed, For the most part I think op-ed writing is more casual than academic writing. The point of op-ed writing is to enertain the reader while casually using sources instead of using hard evidence to back up your sources. Op-ed writing should be easy to read and not so complicated that it cant be read. I think a op-ed should be effective in getting the attended point across without being so specific that it starts to become boring, I mean if I have to get out a dictionary just to read a article then im probaly not gonna finish reading it, I mean after a certain point who are these writers trying to impress? A good example a a op-ed I enjoyed is USA Todays Mark Memmott and Jill Lawrence’s “On Politics”http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/?loc=interstitialskip, These op-ed’s are very knowledgeable and very effective in getting their point across but still mantaining a intresting read.
When I first started thhis class I was more of a analytical writer relying more on facts than actual writing, But as this quarter has wore on my writing has developed. The research paper required me to use more facts and a rather balnd style that I did’nt enjoy, However writing the blog has been more fun, and easier for me to enjoy doing. Writing to a digital audience allows me to have fun with my writing.
